Sethu Menye is a Xhosa 21-year-old and a visual artist who is currently a student at the Fine Arts Department at the University of the Free State. Sethu was born in a small town named Alice in the Eastern Cape. He grew up in Queenstown (now known as Komani) for a few years then his family moved to Bloemfontein in the Free State where he currently resides and attended primary and high school at St Andrew’s School. He is currently a third year student at the UFS, doing his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts.
As a young artist, Sethu is still trying to find his own unique art style and trying to make a name for himself in the art world. He has a deep passion for the arts and would like to explore and possibly master as many art techniques and mediums as possible . At the moment he is just taking in everything he can learn at the art department at the UFS. He has a deep interest in socio-economic and environmental affairs, both locally and internationally, and he often comments and raises awareness on the most important issues that are caused by humans which inevitably damage the planet and people in the process. He feels like the youth should not just sit and watch but they should do something where they can no matter how big or how small, progress is progress.
