Description:
Ntho Tse SnaXXX is how we used to refer to anything that had a sexual connotation when I was growing up. It was taboo, something that is frowned upon which I believe shaped a lot of my peers and my view on sex well into puberty and adulthood. This series explores how we learn about and formulate ideas, and our understanding and identity through what we see, feel and experience when learning about sex, sexuality, gender, our bodies, identity and everything else that has to do with owning up to our sexual side.

“O Tlo Jewa” tackles how the female body is sexualised and commoditised. O tlo jewa translates into “you will be eaten”, which drives home and plays on the notion of women being something to be consumed. It also drives home the point the series is trying to investigate as to why does society refer to the reproductive organs in words that avoid what it is.

The series is created from images from a torn book which is the primary way in which we learn. Furthermore the fact that the pages are visibly torn plays on the idea that information is missing. The use of fruit and X that cover the vagina makes one question our views on sex, sexuality, gender and identity.

However the work also aims to own the fact that women are sexual beings that are allowed to be all they choose to be.

Ntho Tse SnaXXX plays on various concepts that go into being a woman and shocks the viewer into thinking about all the factors that make adults, adults.
