Graham Carter's interest in art and sculpture began during his studies at the University of the Free State where he qualified with his degree in teaching, which he practised for many years.
During this time his hobbies included painting, sculpture and pottery. He mastered his craft in pottery over the course of 26 years, applying it on a large scale which included exhibitions across South Africa and abroad.
Graham is inquisitive by nature and always exploring new media and techniques, which led him to apply himself in watercolor during recent years. This medium was embraced and has been exhibited at various galleries since.
Most recently Graham has explored the medium of stainless steel welding for sculpture. This method of sculpture implies building up the works, from a single point, by applying a multitude of layers stainless steel welding to create the unique pieces. Each item is therefore unique and a visualisation of the process between the artist and the fluid state of the material.
Presently he is casting works in steel, which is combined with stainless steel and bronze.
