Izelle de Beer is a Bloemfontein resident that currently works as a lab manager for the Saense platform at the University of the Free State. Having completed an honours degree in Biochemistry, Izelle spends her days enamored by the beauty of hard science through the study of the chemical and physical principles surrounding living things and biological processes.
When she is not caught in the quiet confines of the laboratory, she prefers to retreat into an altogether different space, trading microscopes and petri dishes for paint brushes and canvases. Preferring acrylic paint as medium, her painting style is marked by a meticulous hand and attention to detail that enlivens her works and breathes forth dimensionality into her subjects. Her work conveys a raw emotion and emotionality that pierces the viewer with the beauty of simplicity and unfiltered realism. Her direct approach to artistic content is paradoxed only by the deeper nuances of the feelings that it leaves the viewer to ponder on.
Having honed and refined her style in the past few years, Izelle takes on more challenging projects that taps into years of dormant creativity and expression — seen in other pursuits as well, such as beading and piano lessons. Art has given Izelle a cathartic experience, building her confidence and her craft in the placement of each stroke.
