41.5 x 33.6 cm
R3 000
Description:
My curiosity of time and its elusive quality has led me to create a work in which I attempt to showcase its ever-changing and fragile nature. I experiment with hand-made paper, a timeous process, into which I then embed snakeskin. Snakeskin has a layered significance to it – not only is this a fragile material to work with but it also implies a constant process in motion (snakes have to shed their old skin every few months). By merging these two materials with one another I attempt to create remnants that could serve as some type of trace of the passing of time and its influence on everyday life. The remnants are pinned into place, as if specimens that can be observed and studied. Despite time being a very elusive and abstract concept, this series aim to be some type of visualisation of its influence and characteristics – a way in which we might be able to indirectly learn more about the layered nature time.
