Description:

Stampede /stamˈpiːd/
Verb: (of horses, cattle, or other animals) rush wildly in a sudden mass panic.

We all know the feeling of being pushed around in a crowd. However, what of a desperate crowd, an uncontrollable one, one that reverts to the animalistic act of stampeding?  Inspired by an event that occurred when I was young, while at the South African side of the Beit Bridge border post, “Stampede” evokes a feeling of vulnerability and violence. It demonstrates mankind’s ultimate lack of control, dignity, and its desire to look after oneself before others. Through this we are confronted with an ethical dilemma should such a situation arise; “Me or them?”
