Description:

My final two years of studies occurred during 2020 and 2021 (two years heavily impacted by Covid-19). Since face-to-face classes were impossible, I ended up recording multiple voice-notes for my lecturers, in which I explained my new ideas for artworks. Bits and pieces of these recording are featured in the video art, giving the viewer a small insight to my artistic process. It becomes rather personal, as I am not regurgitating a well-rehearsed speech but merely voicing whatever came to mind at the time.

There is a sense of unpredictability and vulnerability to recording oneself without knowing what will be said ahead of time. This vulnerability is translated into my work, both audibly and visually. I do not cut filler words, such as “uhm” or “eh” from the video as it only further asserts the unpredictable nature of talking about personal ideas. Video clips of water, snakeskin and glass pieces accompany these voice-recordings. Water constantly changes shape; snakes shed their skin on a regular basis; and glass can so easily shatter into thousands of pieces. There is a temporality and fragility to these materials; and to life.

We never truly know what to expect, much less, how we will react to what changes of the course of time.
