Description:
This artwork addresses the impact of retail therapy and consumerism on young people in contemporary society. Studies have proven that most young people living in the 4th Industrial Revolution are reliant on technological gadgets and material things to sustain their mental health. Platforms such as virtual reality, online stores, and social media are like a drug that the youth depend on to escape their problems and the responsibilities that life demands.

I personally believe, however, that overindulgent consumption can have negative effects on one's self-esteem and well-being, such as failing to maintain personal/romantic relationships and lacking to showcase social skills due to isolation. Most young people have a misconception that retail therapy is actual therapy, but in reality talking to a therapist or a psychiatrist can have more benefits than pulling out your wallet.

Embroidery seemed like the appropriate medium to convey this phenomenon as it is associated with rehabilitation and healing. I also left the background white to symbolise positivity and that there is still hope.

This artwork is 100% biodegradable.
