Description:
In this work the tunnel opening, an entryway into a substructure, functions as a portal; it has the potential to connect different realms, parallel universes, knowing and unknowing.
An opening can invite, but also repel: it can lead to new discoveries, but also has the possibility of being a trap. The dark portal frames, but also obscures a figure, making it barely noticeable. The dark, claustrophobic portal is contrasted to the light, open surroundings. This display of light and dark creates a painterly chiaroscuro, and the different shades of light and shadow created by the surrounding trees and structures has a temporal quality, which further alludes to movement, change and transition.
