Description:

How time leaves a mark on the human body. Not just by ageing, but by lines, cracks, scars and wrinkles.

Society often ignores the process of ageing. People try to escape it through mainstream “quick fix” methods.  Everything that gets old can be replaced or repaired.  Cracks in the buildings are painted and plastered over, your toys from when you were little are replaced with eccentric things like cars and technological devices, but there is nothing that can replace the wisdom of wrinkles, scars, cracks and lines.

With ageing comes confidence, sensuality, truth and wisdom, things that lurk behind the saucer eyes and tired faces of old people.  With my artworks, I have tried to emphasise ageing and thus contrast it with society's concepts thereof.  Oil paint is a good metaphor for ageing as portraits, art and paintings also grow old and you can try to replace it, but there is only one original.  The wisdom, work and emotion behind it is irreplaceable.  There is nothing that complements the concept of time, as ageing.
