Xola Brilliant Sello was born and raised in a creatively driven family in Botshabelo, Free State. His passion for visual art became clearly visible while at Reamohetse Secondary School. Growing up in an environment full of creativity and people driven by the spirit of exploration and experimentation, gave him inspiration to explore and develop new techniques in his art making. This atmosphere gave Sello the incentive to become a visual artist.
Sello’s art making examines the spirit of confidence, economically unresolved issues and the spirit of ‘Ubuntu’ (humanity to others) as to not being critical towards one another.
In 2018, Sello entered the New Breed Art Competition in which he was fortunate enough to be awarded the Merit Award and exhibit at the Oliewenhuis Art Museum. In August 2019, he was granted an opportunity along with the other New Breed winners to showcase a new body of work. The finalists' exhibition took place at the Phatshoane Henney Attorneys head office in Bloemfontein.
