Description:
Rusted Body is a mixed-media painting concerning the transience of the human body.  The work alludes to the gradually deteriorating state of the human body through likening it to rust.  The rust is also a metaphorical comment on the frailty of the body.  The rust is treated as a vanitas object as it alludes to the phenomenon of ageing and wearing away of the skin.  Scavenged pieces of rust and wax mixed with oil paint are deliberately placed around the body forming contours to emphasise the fleshiness of the skin and rusting of the body.  The work invites the viewer to reflect or contemplate their own transient body.
