Description:
Voyage in place, that is the name of all intensities, even if they also develop in extension...To think is to voyage...Voyaging smoothly is a becoming and a difficult, uncertain becoming at that (Deleuze and Guattari, A Thousand plateus (1987:482).

The human condition is defined as “the characteristics, key events, and situations which compose the essentials of human existence, such as birth, growth, emotionality, aspiration, conflict and morality.

In the innermost of my being emotions oscillate between joy and agony, abundance and deprivation, alienation and belonging, disappointment and content, victory and failure, and melt into a symphony of life pursuing harmony between body, mind and spirit.  In my artworks I take a critical view on the changing effect of physical, mental and spiritual impresses we not only allow and endure but also in what sense the environment (including nature and other human beings) is affected on the journey through life, and how past experiences contribute to the shaping of behaviors in the present and views of the future.

The line is an important signifier of movement and life in my work.  Looking back on my life via the recollection of memories, and mapping the significant events and experiences on the routes my life has taken, I am constantly reminded of “sonder”, namely that “every person around us has his/her own life story” (Koenig 2015).  Numerous lines coiling in on itself creating different kinds of pathways depict a labyrinthine voyage of spiritual becoming.

Denis Wood states that “mapping” is a widespread communication of “individual existence”, a process by which sensory data is analysed and a mental representation formed to make sense of our world.  By mapmaking I create visual expressions of my feelings and perceptions based on recollections of past experiences which are continuously contemplated and organized to constellate meaning.
