The photograph concentrates on a topic of having a good heart, which when translated to Setswana is “Bo pelonomi”. This is the story of my life and what happened to me. Back in 2018 I was betrayed by a friend because of helping him. Kindness is the only language we know, we help people in hope that they will be thankful. This particular work manifests itself as a response to Tswana idiom ”Bo pelonomi bo bolaile mamasiloanoka” which comes from a story that one day there was a drought of birds and “mamasiloanoka” helped all birds with shelter because of a good heart and being soft, but with that the bird was killed by the rain.

In the picture the posture, colours and face have meaning. The gesture of looking up, is a sign of prayer with questions like “Does having a good heart make you a fool, is it a sin or wrong?”. The white paint represents my good heart and softness. The red paint represents the challenges I face alone, the inner challenges I face. Without trying to hide it I’ll definitely fill the oceans with my tears. The red circle represents the clouds that surrounds me, the pain. Lastly everything that’s black represent the darkness and route that I walk with helping, having a good and soft heart. Because with helping people you are never sure that they will appreciate your help, that’s why it should be represented with the darkness.

I am entering this photograph because I want to pass on the message that happened in my life, the pain I went through and try to help others with the same ability. Location: Thaba Nchu (Free State).
