Phatshoane Henney New Breed Art Competition 2018: enter from 10 - 16 September

It is time for Free State artists to “be brave, be bold and enter” the Phatshoane Henney New Breed Art Competition 2018.

Now in its third year, this visual arts competition aimed at discovering new and upcoming Free State artists is open for entries from 10 – 16 September at Oliewenhuis Art Museum in Bloemfontein.

Of the R100 000 in prize money, R50 000 will be awarded to the winner, R20 000 to the runner-up and R10 000 each to two Merit Award winners, as well as R10 000 to the Public Choice Award.

At the official competition launch in March his year, Les Cohn from Art Source South Africa stressed that even if an artist enters but does not win, they could still have their entry selected by the competition judging panel to be exhibited as part of the public competition exhibition at Oliewenhuis. “This is a prestigious profile builder, as only artists mature in their careers are usually selected to have their works shown in a museum.”

The Public Choice Award, which allows the public to vote for their favourite artist on the official competition website (www.phinc.co.za/art) and thereby determine the winner thereof, increases the breadth of exposure the selected artists receive, even further.

“All this allows you to engage professionally with the art industry and to get your work seen by the public, selectors and art experts alike, not to mention buyers and collectors – all of which creates greater public awareness of you as an artist. So, grab this opportunity and make sure you enter.” she added.

Artists must please note that a complete entry (a work, a completed and signed entry form and supporting information) must be submitted at Oliewenhuis Art Museum’s reception from 10:00 to 16:00 on any day from Monday 10 to Sunday 16 September 2018. No entries will be received before or after these dates, or outside the hours of 10:00 – 16:00. T

he entry form is available at www.phinc.co.za/art and artists can phone (051) 011 0525 (ext. 200) for queries regarding the submission of entries.
