Description:
This artwork deals with my remembrance of the town that I grew up in:  Richards Bay.  After moving to Bloemfontein in 2014, I rarely get the chance to visit the place anymore.  It was a big adjustment coming from a place with lush, green bushes and a humid atmosphere and moving to a harsh, dry landscape such as the Free State.  Therefore, with each passing year, my memory of Richards Bay becomes vaguer and the memories get replaced by new ones.   And this is why the method of painting is so relevant.  Instead of working from a reference and painting it exactly with paintbrushes, I used a squidgy (mainly used medium of silkscreen) to paint my memory of Richards Bay.  I have less control over the marks and the material with a squidgy, than with a paintbrush.  In the same way I have limited control over my fading memories.
