2017 Competition entry

Pamela Watson

Details:

Pen and ink on paper
79 cm x 61.5 cm

Description:
It is believed that every living thing is connected by spirit, and that everything created by God is inherently good.

While on this earth the human spirit constantly searches for peace and direction, constantly questioning existence; the meaning of life and God - while trying to stay committed to faith.

In this piece Pamela attempts to show her own spiritual growth, herself as an entity/energy being born into life on earth as a sinful human being, and how God changes us to become more like Him. The central figure is meant to symbolise Christ, dying on the cross, taking on our sins to save us.

Ultimately the work looks like a tree with the leaves at the top, symbolising spiritual growth. The tree stands strong because the roots (her faith) is strong.

"There is no need to fear the storm if the roots are strong."
