Lana received her MA Fine Arts degree in 2017 and her BA Fine Arts degree in 2011 at the UFS.  Lana’s research includes the imaginary and playful efforts of the artist to come in contact with the viewer through blurry, distorted multimedia artworks of performative bodies and faces in the process of addressing the viewer through imaginative ways. Artworks play the role of intermediaries, as multi-sensory means for communication, but also as specific performance types with concealing masks and missing links.  Since face-to-face communication is absent in visual art, the artist tries to establish contact with onlookers through mediation.

In 2018 Lana was selected as one of three South African artists to take part in the 7th International Pastel Biennial in Poland.  She was also selected as a top 10 finalist in UJ and MTN’s Emerging Artists Portrait Development Programme competition as well as one of 58 artist/crafters shortlisted for the Innibos National Craft Awards exhibition.  Some of Lana’s major exhibitions include Embodies imagination, Lana’s Masters solo exhibition. She also took part in a travelling exhibition called The Industrial Karoo – Fear & Loss at the Pretoria Art Museum and the Jan Rupert Art Centre, Graaff-Reinette in 2015 and at the Khazimla centre of excellence, De Aar in 2017.  During 2012 her artworks were chosen for the ABSA L’ Atelier in Johannesburg.  In 2012, 2016 and 2017 some of ther work formed part of the Sasol New Signatures exhibition in Pretoria.  In 2016 she was a top 12 Finalist for the Phatshoane Henney New Breed Art Competition.  In 2015 she was selected as top 15 finalist at eh Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards.  Lana’s artworks form part of international and corporate collections.
