Makara Tsoenyane, a gifted artist from Phase 6, Bloemfontein, creates and sells his art from his deceased grandmother's house in the township, while also teaching children in surrounding schools how to practise art and make a living from it at the same time. He will be entering the Phatshoane Henney New Breed Art Competition and should he win, hopes to buy his own vehicle to transport his artworks himself. An overwhelming number of artists from all over the Free State attended the Phatshoane Henney New Breed Art Competition information session at Oliewenhuis Art Museum in Bloemfontein on Tuesday, 3 May.

Today is the official launch of the Phatshoane Henney New Breed Art Competition, presented in association with Oliewenhuis Art Museum. This first-of-its-kind Free State visual arts competition is aimed at discovering new and emerging Free State-based artists, and to provide broad corporate and public exposure to showcase contemporary art from the province.

Today the official title of the first-of-its-kind Free State competition for visual arts presented by Phatshoane Henney Attorneys in association with Oliewenhuis Art Museum, was confirmed as the “Phatshoane Henney New Breed Art Competition”.

Today Oliwenhuis Art Museum officially confirmed their partnership with Phatshoane Henney Attorneys in presenting the Phatshoane Henney New Breed Art Competition. As a devoted supporter of the arts and the development of art and artists in the Free State, Oliewenhuis is a fitting partner for the launch of this new art competition with a specific focus on discovering new and emerging artists in the Free State.
